I have been making wheel thrown, primarily soda fired, functional pottery for the last eight years. I grew up believing that humanity was literally made out of dirt, and I see a strong connection between people and the dirt and earth around us. Clay undergoes an incredible transformation through the process of forming and firing, yet there is no hiding the fact that clay pots are still, in a way, just dirt.

My process involves cutting and stretching wet clay on the potters' wheel. Visual information (the texture of the clay and fluid, spiraling lines) is added through the removal and warping of material.

I hope to make pots that are both comfortable in the hand and engaging to the eye.
